JOHNSON CITY — More than a year after questions about excessive
compensation triggered a tumultuous time for the Pedernales Electric
Cooperative, the utility's old and new regimes joined forces Monday to
finally approve a long-awaited cut in board members' pay.

The co-op's board, which includes a minority of newcomers, voted to cut
its own average annual compensation and benefits more than 40 percent,
to $29,000. That includes an end to board members' health insurance.
