Paul, the PEC must maintain its reputation as a rich outfit that doesn't cut
corners when it comes to fleecing member/owners. You know what they say. "You
have to pay top money to executives if you want to compete for the best talent
out there, especially when you are trying to replace Bennie. Maybe they should
contact that city manager in Bell, California who just lost his job because some
of the locals thought over 800 grand a year was too much for a small town where
the average income is 25K. Clyde Doyal

Letter to the editor:

I see by the Austin American Statesman that Austin has hired a new boss for
Austin Electric. Mr. Larry Weis will start Sept. 25 and will earn $285,000 per
year.
His predecessor,Roger Dunkin got $216,756.
Larry Weis was getting $277,188 in his prior job in California. The salary is
still less than that of the heads of many comparative utilities, city officials
said.

What strikes me is that almost before Mr. Weis unpacks his bags, he is going to
find out that just a few miles down Highway 290, there is a Coop that really
pays, big time.
That country Coop , Pedernales Electric Coop, inc. is looking for a new General
Manager., right now.

The PEC General Manager, just departed was dragging down $466,380. PEC has an
Assistant General Manager who drew $309,119 for 2009. The Chief Financial
Officer made $297,946 in 2009. The Deputy General Manager took home $292,029
for 2009. All figures are from the 2009, PEC, form 990, IRS report.

For sure, Mr. Weis is going to see what a real Electrical Distributor pays its
help and he will ponder his salary of $285,000.

Pedernales Electric has sent out a team to look for a new General Manager. My
feeling is that PEC will just have to offer something like about $500,000-base,
to attract a new Manager.True, the new Manager can live in Austin and motor
down, daily to Johnson City. Like all of the PEC executives he will not be
expected to live in Johnson City.

Folks, salaries like these along with increasing legal expenses paid for the
defense of our past leaders will strain our budget. I expect another
increase in our monthly electrical rates before Christmas.

Sincerely, Hollis P. Langston 404 Westward Ho Horseshoe Bay, Tx
                                                        830-598-1322
