[Watchdogs] A Better PEC

To All

We need candidates for the Board who will insist that an open review of purchasing from TEC be made, and that this question be carefully and openly reviewed:
Whether our PEC should be supporting an Association that acts against the basic ownership rights and interests of PEC member/owners.

We need candidates for the Board who will not only talk about the need for transparency at the PEC, but will promise to follow through and actually insist on transparency upon becoming a Board member.

What do you want to hear from candidates for the PEC Board?

Thanks for keeping up your good work regarding our PEC.

Paul:

It's bad enough that we waste member-owners' money on dues to Texas Electric Cooperatives (TEC) and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).  But, the attached page from the 2009 cost of service study shows that about 29% of dues money in 2007 was used to influence legislation.

It's a bitter pill to swallow that we are paying for TEC (for sure) and the NRECA (probably) to influence legislation against our interests.   Last session of the Legislature TEC opposed open elections, open records, open meetings, open etc., etc. for Texas electric cooperatives

The fact that the PEC Board and management continues to support expenditures for organizations opposed to the best interests of PEC member-owners is a glaring example of the contempt with which they hold the member-owners of the PEC.

Incidentally, the cost of service consultant didn't really remove these "unallowable" expenses, they simply reclassified them and placed then elsewhere.

Dear Lana:  I see by the Resolution (ID#1507), that PEC paid dues to TEC for the upcoming year.  A noteworthy $127,809.

Why do we belong to that Coop?  Do we need them?  How much money do we make by belonging to that TEC?

I would have hoped that the Leaders of PEC would have cut them off after The Board cancelled that letter of Fuelburg that instructed PEC to only buy their Capital Supplies from TEC, no bids, no pricing, no competition.  But they didn't, did they?
